Brendan V. Ryan is an orchestral musician, soloist, and teacher. Ryan grew up in Needham, MA, and began studying flute at age 8. After winning First Prize in the Alexander and Buono International Flute Competition, Ryan made his solo flute debut in Jordan Hall with the New England String Ensemble.
In addition to being a member of the Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, he performs regularly with the Albany Symphony Orchestra, Portland Symphony Orchestra, Cape Cod Symphony and other ensembles throughout the New England region. You can hear his performance as Principal Flute in the Grammy-nominated recording, Sky, by Michael Torke, which featured the Albany Symphony Orchestra and violinist, Tessa Larke.
Along with maintaining a private flute studio, Mr. Ryan has taught masterclasses at Boston College, Tufts University, Manchester Community Music School, Middle Tennessee State University and SUNY Schenectady. He is a graduate of the University of Southern California and the University of Texas at Austin and is grateful to have studied under Jim Walker, Marianne Gedigian, and Jeanne Baxtresser.
