Cellist and educator, Phaedre Sassano, began her studies with Eric Dahlin of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Boston University while studying with master cellist, George Neikrug, and her master’s degree in Performing Arts Administration from New York University, which included time spent in the Netherlands and Germany to study arts administration in the European context.
During her time in New York City, Ms. Sassano served as Education Associate for the Manhattan New Music Project, helping to develop and implement school music programs in public and private schools in all five boroughs. She also worked with the World Music Institute, where she assisted with the coordination and promotion of international performing arts events.
Ms. Sassano has worked in the Hingham Public Schools in Massachusetts since 2001. She serves as Director of Secondary Orchestras and served as department head for fifteen years.
Additionally, Ms. Sassano spent time as a strings specialist with the National Sinfonia for the Orchestral Society of Trinidad and Tobago and has conducted regional youth symphonies in the United States. She is an active member of regional and statewide music festivals, where she has acted as orchestra manager, adjudicator, auditions committee member, concert chair and Vice President.
Along with serving as ASO’s Personnel Manager, Ms. Sassano is the Assistant Director of the New Directions Cello Festival.
